Report: Nearly 58 percent turnout in Wis. recall
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Final results show nearly 58 percent of voting-age adults turned out for Wisconsin's historic recall election.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that's easily the highest turnout in more than 60 years for a nonpresidential ballot in Wisconsin.
In some parts of the state, turnout was far higher -- and it approached presidential levels in a few communities.
A total of 2,516,065 votes were cast in the June 5 recall. According to the now official tally released Wednesday, Republican Gov. Scott Walker got 53.08 percent -- or 1,335,585 votes -- and Democrat Tom Barrett got 46.28 percent, or 1,164,480 votes.
The Government Accountability Board had predicted that up to 65 percent of eligible voters would go to the polls.
