EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) A new area food pantry has opened its doors to the public for the first time Thursday to help put food on people's tables.

The first ever distribution for Ruby's Pantry in Eau Claire was held Thursday at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd on Cedar Street.

The program is a food distribution system that asks people to donate twenty dollars to receive more than 70 pounds of food.

Volunteers unloaded the truck and started registration at 4 o'clock, with distribution at 5:30 pm.

Two years ago Shepherd of the Hill Lutheran Church in Elk Mound started distributing food through the program known as Ruby's Pantry, and it finally made its way to Eau Claire.
