EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A man was taken to the hospital after investigators say he fired a shot at his Town of Union home.
It happened around midnight Wednesday on Sky Hawk Drive, which is west of Eau Claire. Sheriff Ron Cramer says deputies responded after a husband and wife in the home had an argument, and the husband went into the basement and fired a shot. When deputies responded, they got the woman out of the house. A SWAT team also responded to the house. Cramer says the man ripped the phone out of the wall, so investigators couldn't negotiate with him. Eventually, he came out of the house. The man was taken to a local hospital.
"The individual from last night had no criminal history. So he had the right to own a weapon but unfortunately he touched off a round which caused some real excitement of whether he hurt himself or someone else," Eau Claire County Sheriff Ron Cramer said.
Eventually the man came out of the house and was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. Nobody was hurt. Cramer says the department will refer its investigation to the district attorney.
