Sacred Heart Hospital & UW-Eau Claire host bone marrow event

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- Sacred Heart Hospital and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Student Nurses Association hosted a "Be The Match" bone marrow drive Thursday.

Organizers hope the drive will educate people about bone marrow donation and how to become a donor. Last year 111 people signed up for the bone marrow registry and organizers raised more than $6,000. This year they had 116 people sign up and have already met their fundraising goal.

"In 2005 I had a bone marrow transplant. The transplant was from an unrelated donor, and I've always wanted to give back to the community and people who have done so much and supported me. So by doing bone marrow drives last year and this year I feel like I have a great purpose and want to help other people," said organizer Hailey Craig.
