Schafer awarded for contributions to grocery industry

MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) - A local grocer is being recognized for his contributions.

Gordy Schafer, the founder and past owner of Gordy's County Market is the winner of the Excellence in Operations Award. He received the award during a surprise announcement Wednesday at the Lake Wissota store. The award is given to grocers in Wisconsin for their outstanding contribution to the grocery industry.

Schafer says he's been in the grocery business since he was 15-years-old.
