Scouts earn top awards

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)- Dozens of area Girl Scouts are recognized for their service to the community.

Sunday the Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes held its awards ceremony to present scouts and volunteers with some of the organizations top honors.

This year six area scouts earned the Gold Award in the area, which is Girl Scouting’s top honor.

In order to achieve the Gold Award scouts must create and finish a community project that will have an impact for years to come.
“Girl Scouts has a huge impact giving back with our service projects and our awards projects in the communities that the scouts live in,” community development manager Karen Hauck said.

On average the Girl Scouts says only 5% of eligible girl scouts earn the Gold Award annually.
