A Florida man who has won seven lottery game grand prizes offers opinions on how to win.
ELEVA, Wis. (WEAU) -- "The first thing I would do is take my whole family on a vacation," said Terri Indrebo.
Call it a $2 daydream, what would you do if you scored the jackpot?
"I know everyone says that but I would honestly give back some of the money," Indrebo said.
At D&D Gas Plus in Eleva, a constant flow of customers on Wednesday cashed in on a chance to turn dreams into reality.
"From this store I won $30,000 dollars on a cherry crossword, it was amazing," said Mel Adank.
But down in Florida, there is a man who has gone even bigger.
"Just my last 3 grand prize wins were over a million dollars," said Richard Lustig.
He has won seven lottery game grand prizes. His most recent win was $842,000.
"One of them was a scratch ticket, two of them were second chance drawings, and four of them were ball games," he said.
He has even written a book detailing his opinions on how to win.
First, stay away from quick picks. He says you need to establish a set of your own numbers with it every time.
"Never change your numbers and don't ever miss a draw," he said.
As for the numbers you should use in your set - Lustig says you should avoid using birthdays, anniversaries or other important dates. Since there are only seven days in a week, 31 days in a month, and 12 months in a year, you limit the numbers you can choose.
"If you pick only birthdays and anniversaries which again a lot of people do, if your numbers do come up, you're gonna find there is a lot more people you're gonna have to split the pot with," he said.
Finally, he says you need to know your limits.
Don't spend grocery money, don't spend rent money, figure out what you can afford to spend," he added.
But he says always buy a ticket because if you're not in it, you cannot win it.
