MILLINGTON, Tenn. (AP) -- Police say a member of the National Guard opened fire at an armory outside a U.S. Navy base in Tennessee, wounding two soldiers before being taken into custody.

Millington Police Chief Rita Stanback says the shooter was apprehended Thursday by other National Guard members. Stanback says the two people shot were also National Guard members.

The two people shot were taken to a hospital. Stanback said at a news conference that their conditions were not immediately known, though the Navy says on its official Twitter account that neither had life-threatening injuries.

A law enforcement official, speaking on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly, says the gunman was a recruiter who had been relieved of duty.

A Navy recruiter who had been relieved of duty shot two people at a Navy base north of Memphis and was quickly taken into custody, according to a law enforcement official who had been briefed on the developments.

The injuries were not life-threatening, said that official and another official, both of whom spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the investigation publicly.
