Six vehicles involved in crash on Water Street bridge

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- Six vehicles were involved in a crash on the Water Street bridge Thursday morning.

Kyle Roder, with the Eau Claire Police Department, says officers were notified of the crash around 9:15 a.m. Only minor injuries were reported and none of the people involved were taken to the hospital.

Roder says a vehicle was stopped at the stoplight just over the bridge when a van approached it from behind. The driver of the van was driving too fast and slipped on the icy bridge, slid into the other lane, and hit the railing. This caused a chain-reaction as other vehicles approached and also slid and hit each other. Two vehicles had to towed from the scene.

The bridge was blocked off in both directions for about a half hour. The driver of the van was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
