Skywarn spotter training classes to be held again this spring

By  |

The 2014 Skywarn spotter training class schedule has come out for Western Wisconsin for this spring. The Twin Cities, Duluth, and La Crosse National Weather Service Offices will be conducting the training classes. The objective of the class is to train individuals to be storm spotters for the National Weather Service when severe weather threatens.

The Skywarn program has been working with local organizations and private citizens who have a desire to serve their communities for years. Skywarn volunteers receive training in severe storm identification and evolution, and when severe weather threatens, they become "storm spotters", reporting information in real-time to their local National Weather Service office. All the classes are free and last around 2 1/2 hours. Pre-registration for these classes is required only if specifically stated on the schedule. Additional classes will be added to the list if local officials request a class in their area.
