SPARTA, Wis. (WEAU) -- The recent rains have caused the carnival at an area event to move.
The carnival at Sparta Butterfest is traditionally held on a grassy area at Memorial Park.
This year it will be held at Memorial Park’s parking lot.
Sparta Area Chamber of Commerce executive director Tim Hyma said the carnival wouldn’t have been able to pass a state inspection.
He also said it rained on the last day of Butterfest last year, and the ground got torn up from wreckers moving the carnival equipment.
Hyma said if the carnival had been held on the grassy area, only about 8 rides would have met state code.
He said the carnival will have more than 20 rides since it’s being held in the parking lot.
“There’s a lot of folks in Sparta that were disappointed with it, but I think it was a great move, because safety is the first concern of our community,” said Hyma.
Sparta Butterfest runs Thursday until Sunday.
Admission is $3 in advance and $4 at the gate.
