Sparta police officers catch armed robbery suspect

SPARTA, Wis. (WEAU) -- The Sparta Police Dept. said it arrested a man suspected of armed robbery Saturday.

Officers said around 2:40 p.m., they were called to EZ Money Payday Loans at 530 Black River Street S. for an armed robbery.

Officers said a masked man approached the cashier and demanded money, showing a handgun.

An officer arrived on scene and the suspect ran off. After a short chase on foot, the suspect was arrested.

The Sparta Police Dept. said 25-year-old Jacob Elliott of Camp Douglas is in Monroe County Jail. He's scheduled to appear in Monroe County Circuit Court on Monday.

The robber is still under investigation. If you have any information, you're asked to call 608-269-3122.
