Special Olympics Track & Field Meet Canceled

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – A track and field meet with more than 300 athletes expected to take part has been canceled because of the snowstorm.

Special Olympics Wisconsin Indianhead Region announced the decision Thursday. It says the track will be too wet and muddy to use, even if the snow has melted by Saturday, May 4. That’s when the meet had been scheduled at North High School in Eau Claire. Special Olympics says the meet can’t be rescheduled because the facility isn’t available.

The organization plans to hold swimming events inside North High School as planned. More than 100 athletes are registered to compete. It asks coaches and volunteers to determine whether it’s safe to drive to Eau Claire if the weather is bad Saturday morning.

Volunteers scheduled to work the swim meet should report to the high school as planned.
