Statement from Joe Burnett, President of Burnett Transit:
At approximately 6:58 a.m. this morning a school bus owned by Burnett Transit was involved in an accident on Highway 13 about one half mile north of the Village of Spencer. The school bus had just departed from the bus terminal for its morning school bus route about two minutes prior to the time of the accident. There were no students on the bus at the time of the accident. Road conditions were very icy at the time of the accident. According to preliminary reports the bus was traveling approximately 30 miles per hour, in a 55 mile per hour zone, when an on-coming vehicle slid across the center line and entered into the path of the bus. The driver of the bus was not injured. The single occupant of the vehicle that struck the bus has died as a result of the injuries they sustained in the accident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the person who lost their life in the accident. A complete investigation of the accident is underway. We have no further comments at this time.
