Staffing crunch easing at Wisconsin state parks

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Employees of the Wisconsin state park system have been doing more with less.
Nearly one in four full-time parks positions is vacant because of years of hiring freezes. That may ease a bit with the new state budget. State parks director Dan Schuller says some vacant positions will now be filled and recruiting efforts are under way.
To deal with tough economic times, office hours at state parks have been cut, trails aren't being mowed as often and bathrooms aren't cleaned as frequently.
The State Journal says about 50 of 212 full-time parks positions are vacant. The number of seasonal workers is about 630, down from about 880 four years ago.
