State's latest craft brewery to open in Verona

VERONA, Wis. (AP) -- The state's newest brewery in Verona is the latest addition to the nation's booming craft-beer industry.

A Wisconsin State Journal report says Wisconsin Brewing Co. in Verona plans to open its tap room Friday.

At first the company's four beers will be sold exclusively at Verona restaurants and bars. Next week they'll appear in stores, as well as in bars and restaurants in a 22-county area.

The opening expands a trend in the craft-beer segment. The U.S. industry grew 15 percent last year, to 13.2 million barrels. That's while overall sales of all U.S. beers rose less than 1 percent.

Wisconsin Brewing Co. has aggressive plans. Its goal is to produce 250,000 barrels per year, about twice what the state's current largest craft brewer makes.
