MERRILLAN, Wis (WEAU)—There is some “berry good news” for strawberry pickers. After a cold spring delayed the season, the warm, rainy start to summer helped strawberry growers catch up.
Comstock Strawberries, in Merrillan, opens for pickers Tuesday (6/25).
Owners Kevin and Corrine Comstock say while they are opening about two weeks later than usual, the wait was worth it.
“The berries are incredible this year there just huge easy to find,” Corrine said. “With a late start and now lots and sun and heat the berries have really ripened. In a left-handed way, maybe we will actually have better berries this year.”
Corrine adds that now that the growing is done, the fun begins. Comstock opens is open 7 days a week starting at 6:30am.
“It’s like a family reunion out here, people come and say do you remember me and we are like yes. It’s just so fun to have people out here.” Corrine said.
