Streets of Eau Claire splashed with hues of Color Dash

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The streets of Eau Claire were splashed with shades of the rainbow for the first ever Color Dash 5k.

Organizers said the 5k was the biggest in the city's history with 3,100 registered runners. Kids and families were decked out in tutus and colorful sunglasses as part of the untimed run-walk at Carson Park. At each kilometer, an explosion of colored powder was thrown onto participants.

The dash raised more than $47,000 for the Eau Claire Children's Theater.

“We're kicking off our 25th anniversary so we thought this would be a cool new way to do that,” said Wayne Marek, the executive director of ECCT. “We're super excited to be hosting the first color dash for Eau Claire. They're only in their first year and this is actually the largest race they've ever had.”

And in case you're wondering what the colored powder is made of, it's cornstarch and food coloring which washes off after a shower or two.
