NEW INFORMATION: Student shot during attempted robbery released

MILWAUKEE, WI (AP) -- A Marquette University student who was shot in the hand during a robbery attempt near the Milwaukee campus has been released from the hospital.

The 19-year-old male student was one of three students who were confronted by robbers in the same area about 2:30 a.m. Friday. Authorities say the other two students gave up their valuables and were not injured.

Officers from the university's Department of Public Safety apprehended one of two suspected robbers. The second is still at large.

Authorities say the robberies happened outside a parking structure about 2:30 a.m. Friday. The first two students handed over their valuables to a robber.

A second man tried to rob a third student who struggled with the suspect and was shot. Police arrived and arrested the suspect. The other robber is still at large.

Marquette officials sent text alerts to students shortly after learning about the robberies. The university says classes will be held as scheduled Friday.
