Students to plant trees for Arbor Day

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- A service organization in the area is helping students understand the importance of trees for Arbor Day.

On Friday, the Cleghorn Lions Club distributed 165 trees to 4th graders at Robbins and Meadowview Elementary Schools in Eau Claire. Club members gave the students a brief history of Arbor Day and then gave out the trees.

"We're losing some trees, you know, to disease and stuff, so it's important to keep trees for the beautification of the area. One of the big things now is ash borer is coming in, planting trees to replace that, potentially replacing that," said Larry Natzke of the Cleghorn Lions Club.

This is the third year the Cleghorn Lions Club has given trees to the kids.
