LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Crews have shut down a stretch of a street in La Crosse after a water main break Friday morning.

La Crosse police say it happened at the intersection of Copeland Avenue and Monitor Street. As of about 7:40 a.m. Friday, Monitor Street was closed between Copeland and Rose Street. It initially flooded the intersection. It may take several hours for crews to clear the water from the streets.

Officers are urging drivers to use caution in the area, since roads could become icy.
