TRAFFIC ALERT: U.S. 53 near Galesville expected to be closed through Wednesday night

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- UPDATE: The Trempealeau County Sheriff's Department says as of 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Highway 53 at State Highway 54 remained closed because of flooding, and is expected to stay closed through Wednesday night.

Deputies are asking drivers to take an alternate route. They suggest going west on WIS 54 to WIS 93, north on WIS 93 to WIS 95, east on WIS 95 and back to US 53.

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A stretch of U.S. Highway 53 is blocked off because of water that is over the road.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says the closure is near Galesville, on highway 53 at State Highway 54. Both lanes are closed. Crews shut down the highway around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. It could remain closed for four hours.

The state patrol suggests going west on on highway 54 to State Highway 93 north, to State Highway 95 east, and back to highway 53.
