LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- An area city is trying to determine what to do about its branch libraries.
La Crosse Mayor Tim Kabat said a task force has been formed to decide what to do about the North Community and South Community Libraries.
In September, there was a proposal to close the south branch library, but the library board was able to work with the mayor and the finance department to find the funding to keep it open.
The cost of personnel, utilities and materials for either branch library is roughly $225,000 to $250,000.
However, the La Crosse Public Library director said that doesn't include tasks such as ordering books, or cataloging books.
The mayor said he doesn't want to see either library branch close.
"The branch libraries have been very critical pieces of our overall neighborhood revitalization efforts,” said Kabat.
Kabat said the task force is coming up with recommendations for the library board and the common council.
