(WEAU) - The recent ups and downs in temperatures are causing a re-emergence of the dreaded potholes.

The city says the pothole situation is actually better than last year because of the lack of snow and moisture along with warmer than normal temperatures. Also, now that the road on Hastings way is brand new, Eau Claire says the can focuses on other problem roadways like the stretch of road along Brackett Avenue where it is particularly bad. Stephen Thompson with the Eau Claire streets department says crews have been checking for and filling potholes.

They use a special winter patch that is made to stick better if there's moisture and cold temperatures. If you see a bad pothole you can call the Public Works Department at (715) 839-4934 to report it. They keep a list of complaints and will send out crews to assigned routes around the city.

"We’re looking for the ones right now when your tire hits it you feel it. It could do some damage. So we look for them and the criterion is to get them filled in and up to road grade," says Thompson.
