Thorp police chief, UWL police sergeant among finalists for UW-River Falls police chief

Trende has been Chief of University Police since November 2006.  He was Chief of Police in Hudson for 13 years.  He retired from that position in 2006.  He was also a police officer in Hudson from 1972-2006.  The UWRF Police Department is housed in South Hall, which is pictured on this story.

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- The Thorp police chief and a UW-La Crosse police sergeant are among three finalists for UW-River Falls Police Chief.

University Communications at the school says Thorp Chief of Police Sharon Verges was interviewed for the job on Tuesday, and Sgt. Scott McCullough from the UW-La Crosse Police Department will interview Thursday. A third candidate, Karl Fleury of the UW-Green Bay Police Department, interviewed for the job on Monday.

Chief of University Police Richard Trende is retiring from the department. The university is holding a farewell reception for him on Thursday. University Communications says the school hopes to have a new police chief in place as soon as possible.
