LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) -- An area medical center that helps veterans is giving college students the opportunity to learn to take care of veterans.

The Tomah VA Medical Center allows students in various fields such as radiography, nursing and chiropractic to get clinical training.

It works with students from several area colleges including UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, Viterbo University and Western Technical College.

Breanne Schraufnagel is in the radiography program at Minnesota State College - Southeast Technical in Winona.

She’s been doing clinical training at the Tomah VA since January.

Schraufnagel said she’s enjoyed being at the Tomah VA, and has received a lot of hands on experience.

“The program how they run it here is really nice. They kind of let you be independent, and they show you a lot of different ways to do things,” said Schraufnagel.

Schraufnagel finishes her clinical at the VA next month, and will graduate in May of 2015.

She said she’d like to work at the Tomah VA in the future.
