Town of Unity man killed in Clark Co. crash

NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (CLARK COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE NEWS RELEASE) -- Clark County authorities are investigating a one vehicle crash that took the life of the driver. On August 21st 2014, at about 3:31 PM, the Clark County Sheriff's Office received a 9-1-1 call of an accident on Rock Creek Road near Miller Avenue in the Township of Loyal.

Initial investigation indicates that a pickup truck was traveling east on Rock Creek Road when it passed a horse and buggy also traveling east. The truck lost control after it passed the buggy and entered the south ditch. The truck then came back onto the roadway and spun counter clockwise. It then flipped two times and ejected the driver. The vehicle came to rest in the north ditch on the passenger side facing east. The operator was found in the north ditch about 50 feet to the west of the vehicle. The operator was not wearing his seatbelt.

The operator, Brad Mews, 31 of the Town of Unity, was transported to the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield where he died from his injuries.

The Greenwood Area Ambulance and Fire Department, the Clark County Sheriff's Office and the Spirit Air Ambulance of Marshfield responded to the scene. The Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Clark County Coroner Richard Schleifer is continuing the investigation into the crash. This is the fourth fatality for Clark County in 2014.
