HUDSON, Wis. (WEAU) -- Investigators are trying to find whoever opened fire on a tractor-trailer during the weekend.

It happened just after midnight Saturday morning west of Baldwin. St. Croix County Sheriff John Shilts says the driver of the semi was trying to pass what he described as an older, red or maroon car as he was heading east on Interstate 94. As he went by, he heard what he thought was rapid knocking on the wall of the cab and sleeper. He didn't see anyone inside. After driving another ten miles down the freeway, another driver signaled for him to pull over because he was losing fuel. The other driver called for help, and deputies responded. They found that the vehicle had been hit almost nine times, with several rounds hitting the tractor and trailer. Nobody was hurt. The driver was the only person in the vehicle at the time.

Investigators recovered slugs and several shell casings Shilts says came from a 10 mm pistol. The truck was back on the road on Sunday. No suspects have been identified. If you have any information, you're asked to call the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office at (715) 381-4701.
