EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- A trial date is now set for four Amish families in Eau Claire County facing several thousands of dollars worth of fines and a possible eviction.
Online court records show they will head to court on May 6th. The families are accused of not getting building permits or complying with certain rules. They say installing smoke and carbon monoxide detectors violates their religious beliefs.
Meanwhile, State Lawmaker, Kathy Bernier, plans to introduce a bill that would exempt people living without electricity and plumping from following electricity building codes that require the use of detectors.
