Trucking industry looking for workers

(WEAU) – With unemployment still high around the country, one area that is looking to hire workers is the trucking industry.

The American Trucking Association says its short about 20,000 to 25,000 drivers, and says that number will get even higher. The ATA expects 36% industry growth, with 37% retirements from driving.

An instructor at CVTC says locally, it also has to do with the frac sand industry. Jeff Frederick told us "we also have a boom in the sand industry in this area and trucking companies are going to sand companies and that type of stuff which opens up positions in other areas of the trucking industry."

H.O. Wolding Inc. of Amherst, Wisconsin recently donated a truck to CVTC that Frederick says will teach students different transmission skills to help them get hired at various trucking companies.
