Turnout around 19 percent for spring election

MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Turnout for Tuesday's spring election in Wisconsin nearly hit the prediction of 20 percent.

Based on unofficial results, about 19 percent of the voting age population cast ballots for the state Supreme Court race. That was one of two statewide issues on the ballot. The other, for state superintendent, only had about 18 percent of voters casting ballots.

Incumbents in both races easily won re-election.

Justice Pat Roggensack defeated challenger Ed Fallone 57 percent to 43 percent. Fallone is a Marquette University law professor.

State superintendent Tony Evers got 61 percent of the vote in his race against Republican state Rep. Don Pridemore, who came in with 39 percent.

The overall turnout of 19 percent is on par with most spring elections in recent years.
