(WEAU)-Two people were hurt after a crash in Barron County.
The sheriff's department says on Monday around 6 p.m., an SUV driven by Chantley Zillyette, 69, of Turtle Lake, lost control on the ice covered roads and crossed the center line on Highway 8 at 5th Street. The SUV hit a car driven by Gene Broom, 51, of St. Croix Falls.
Both were extricated from the vehicle. Broom was taken to Barron
Hospital with head injuries. Zillyette was taken to Cumberland Hospital and later to Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire with severe injuries.
On Monday, between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., officers in Barron County handled 19 accidents/vehicles in the ditch across the county.
On St. Patrick’s Day, from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on Saturday night
officers in Barron County stopped 46 vehicles for a variety of
violations with no arrests made for Operating while Intoxicated.
