GILMANTON, Wis. (WEAU) — The Buffalo Co. Sheriff's Department has released the names of those who were injured in a house fire early Saturday morning.

Dean R. Nelson, 31, Gretchen L. Husein, 28, and Molli Ellis, 5, were all hurt in the fire that happened at a home on State Highway 121 in Gilmanton around 4:15 a.m. Saturday.

Nelson and Ellis were both taken to a burn center in Minnesota. Husein had minor injuries, deputies say.

The Sheriff’s Department says the man and woman woke up to smoke alarms and saw the fire. The two adults could not get upstairs to where the 5-year-old was sleeping. Deputies say that's when Nelson and Husein went outside and used a ladder to reach an upstairs window. They broke the window and got Ellis out of the house.

Deputies say Ellis was unresponsive but breathing and believe she suffered from smoke inhalation. Nelson suffered severe burns.

Deputies say the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting.
