Deputies arrest two men for a string of burglaries and now investigators are trying to figure out if they're connected to any other area home invasions. 26-year-old Jared Erickson and 23-year-old Bryan Shaw were in court Monday morning. They're accused of burglarizing at least four homes around Eau Claire County in December.
Investigators say it's always good when they can lighten their case load.
"It's nice to clear up several of them. It's usually just a small group that causes a lot of havoc," says Detective Allen Myren with the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies with the Eau Claire county Sheriff's Department arrested Bryan Shaw and Jared Erickson in Lake Hallie early this month.
"We suspect them in several day time burglaries in which they go up to the door knock and if no one is home then they'll check the side of the residents and eventually kicking down or break down the door. They’re stealing anything from large screen TV's, jewelry, laptops, prescription drugs, cash and guitars," says Myren.
He says a tip from a woman who woke up while the two men were trying to break in helped lead to their arrest. According to the criminal complaint the men stole jewelry from a home near Fall Creek and then sold it to a local pawn shop. In an interview deputies did with Shaw he admitted to selling the jewelry at the pawn shop for Erickson. The complaint explains that three large flat screen TV's and several guns were taken from another home. Myren says all of the burglaries happened during the day.
"Usually the excuse is they're lost or looking for someone else. For the public, try to grab a plate or a description on the vehicle and a description of the people knocking on the door," says Myren.
The complaint say the men also took guitars, DVD's, a laptop and more jewelry from at least four homes, all with the goal of selling the items. The sheriff's department says these crimes could be connected to drug use problems. Myren says unfortunately burglaries are becoming more common in the area.
"I seem to be getting more coming across my desk so they seem to be on the rise," says Myren.
Erickson and Shaw will be in court again at the end of the month. Myren says they're still investigation to see if the two men are connected to any more home invasions as well as if anyone else is involved with these crimes. He says if you see any suspicious activity or have any information call the Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Tip line at 715-839-4861.
