UPDATE: Testimony resumes in Van de Loo sex assault trial

Superior, WI -- Testimony has resumed in the sexual assault trial of Eau Claire Doctor David Van de Loo. The trial is taking place in Superior after Van de Loo's lawyer requested the trial be moved out of Eau Claire County.

Van de Loo is charged with 16 counts of felony sexual assault. 15 teenagers say Van de Loo touched them inappropriately during sports physical exams.

Friday, referencing one of the exams, Van de Loo said he should have done the exam differently and said he would not do it again because he quote 'made a mistake'.

Prosecution rested last week, defense attorneys are presenting their case right now.
Closing arguments are expected Wednesday.

A pediatrician accused of sexually assaulting patients took to the witness stand in court Friday morning.

The trial of David Van de Loo is in Superior.

Van de Loo testified that one exam left a patient upset and that he should have talked to him and his parents.

He continued, "Doc, what were you thinking?’ I thinking, I was thinking that I need to make this diagnosis and I didn't stop to think what _____ perception of this was’ said Van de Loo. "

Van de Loo said he should have done the exam differently and said he would not do it again because he quote 'made a mistake' .

The defense is expected to call six to eight more witnesses before turning the case over to the jury. Closing arguments are expected to be heard on Wednesday.

Van de Loo is charged with 16 counts of felony sexual assault. 15 teenagers say Van de Loo touched them inappropriately during sports physical exams.

He also faces 26 civil lawsuits that accuse him of sexual abuse. Van de Loo practiced pediatrics and sports medicine for Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire. He was fired in September 2012. The health care provider said that it had been made aware of the allegations two weeks before that.

Van de Loo's lawyer had asked that the trial be moved out of Eau Claire County. The trial started on January 21st and is expected to last almost three weeks.
