UPDATE: Dog that survived crash has leg amputated

Updated: Wed 5:07 AM, Jun 27, 2012

(WEAU) - We have an update on a dog that survived this deadly crash scene in Clark County.

Last week, County Road M washed out and left behind a 50 foot wide hole where two vehicles crashed. Three people died, but a Thorp native's dog survived the crash. On Monday, that dog had his leg amputated.

Diana Care with Grassland Veterinary Service in Granton says the husky named "Duke" is recovering from surgery Monday night. He'll get to go home Wednesday.

She says the family of the woman wants to keep Duke. The leg was amputated for $500. If the family would have tried to save the leg, it would have cost $2,000. Any leftover funds will be used for Duke's future medical expenses.
