THORP, Wis. (WEAU)-- U.S. Representative, Sean Duffy, hosted a medal ceremony Tuesday morning in Thorp to honor a local veteran.
Duffy presented the Legion d'Honneur medal to Sergeant Anton F. Jacks, a veteran who served in France, Belgium, and Germany during World War II.
Jacks was awarded the medal for his heroic acts back in 1944, when he booby trapped the perimeter of the outpost where he and his unit were resting. When the Germans tried to attack, the trap went off, and the Germans withdrew.
"Without question, Sergeant Jacks is a hero. His personal bravery and heroic conduct are in keeping with the highest tradition or military service and reflect the great credit upon himself, the core of engineers, and the United States Army," said Rep. Duffy.
The Legion d'Honneur award was created to honor U.S. Veterans who risked their lives during World War II on French territory.
