Eau Claire County has three frac sand operations right now: Hi Crush, High Country Sand and Five Star Properties.
EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- A company could open Eau Claire County's largest frac sand mine.
U.S. Silica is considering a 650-acre site near Fairchild for the mine. The company also has a mine in Sparta, but this one would be larger. It believes the Fairchild-area mine could bring more than 60 jobs. The mine would use a rail line near the site to transport minerals.
The public is welcome at a meeting about the mine at Fairchild Elementary School. It's scheduled for Monday at 6:30 p.m.
