LA CROSSE, Wis (WEAU)- Thousands of students will be moving into UW-L in the next few days. It will be chaotic, and extra construction in the city will not be making things any easier.

A couple of families that went through the craziness of move in last year were back moving in their daughters for a second time.

“Last year was chaotic. You had lanes feeding into a parking lot and I had to wait 45 min to get a spot” said Steve Fischer, who was moving in his daughter Chelsea Fischer.

“It was bumper to bumper, you just had to be patient and wait until you got into the parking lot” said Tim McMillen, who was moving in his daughter Allison McMillen.

Because they came a day early this time they missed the craziness they experienced last year.

“This year is a piece of cake,” said McMillen.

“I’m very happy we didn’t have to go through that again,” said Fischer.

Move in day Friday is expected to be a bigger back up than last year due to construction on Hwy 16.

“Last week we sent out an email to students advising them about the construction, telling them to be cautious and drive safely,” said Residence Life Director, Nick Nicklaus.

If you are commuting to work there are some specific areas that the UW-L PD would like you to avoid.

“Avoid Losey Blvd. and La Crosse Street,” said Chief Scott Rohde.

More than 3 thousand students will be moving in Friday and Saturday so if you can avoid campus, do it.

“Use Hwy 53, Hwy, 35, Gillette Street, or take an alternate route. It’s really going to make your commute much better, safer and you are going to avoid long lines,” said Rohde.
