The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire says the city of Eau Claire will begin construction this week on and near the intersection of Park and Garfield avenues at the east entrance of the university.
The university says this will require a two-day closure of the intersection sometime during the week of July 4th.
The city will be removing dirt boulevards and replacing them with colored, stamped concrete on Park Avenue between Hibbard Humanities Hall and Hibbard parking lot and on Garfield Avenue between Hibbard Hall and Brewer Hall. UW-Eau Claire will fund this portion of the project.
The university says the city-funded portion of the project will include reconstructing the intersection of Garfield and Park avenues, replacing a light fixture currently at the intersection and installing an additional light fixture.
It says some trees in the construction area also will be removed. Ash trees will be removed as part of the city's emerald ash borer management plan. Damaged and diseased maple trees also will be removed.
Replacement trees will be planted by the city in October.
Haas Sons Inc. is the contractor on the project.
