MENOMONIE, Wis. (WEAU) The UW- Stout community said goodbye to its longest serving leader Wednesday.

A reception was held in honor of Chancellor Charles Sorensen, who is retiring after a 26 year term.

It included speakers, a video, and an awards presentation in the Great Hall of the Memorial Student Center.

Sorensen says his grandchildren had some concerns when he told them about his retirement.

"We have lovely granddaughters and I don't have any favorites but little Riley is 7 years old, and she's a jewel of a kid, and when I told her we were retiring she said 'Well will you still be able to buy presents for me?'" he told the crowd.

Sorensen is just the sixth president to serve at UW- Stout.
