Sorensen, UW-Stout's sixth chancellor, served in that role for 26 years.
MENOMONIE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The UW-System is about to form a committee as it moves toward hiring a new UW-Stout Chancellor.
Nominations are due by January 3 for a 21-member search and screen committee. It will be made up of UW-Stout faculty, academic staff, and classified staff, an administrator from UW-Stout and one from the UW System, students, and community members. Chancellor Charles Sorensen will nominate two Stout administrators and four community representatives. Governance groups will submit names of students, faculty and staff for consideration. After the UW-System receives the nominations, it will name members of the committee. It's tentatively set to meet on January 14, with interim UW-System President Richard Telfer presenting the charge to the committee at UW-Stout. UW System President Kevin Reilly says the committee's work will happen during the spring semester.
Earlier this month, Sorensen announced that he will retire in August 2014. A new chancellor is expected to be named in late spring, and that person would start in August 2014.
