MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- University of Wisconsin System officials hope to announce the finalists for the system president position later this month.
Board of Regents President Michael Falbo told the regents Friday the system expects to release the names on Dec. 23, with final interviews set for Jan. 6 and Jan. 7.
The system is searching for a new leader after current President Kevin Reilly announced in July he planned to resign at the end of the year. The announcement came after Reilly took intense criticism from Republican legislators for allowing system campuses to build huge reserves while raising tuition year after year. Reilly defended the reserves as a way to protect the system as state support shrinks, but Republicans said he and system officials needlessly overcharged students.
