UWEC Chancellor going to China as part of Gov Walker trip

(WEAU) - UW-Eau Claire Interim Chancellor Gilles Bousquet is heading to China next month as part of a trade mission trip with Governor Walker.

The school says Bousquet will represent the UW System on the trip. It says the goal of the trip is to expand the state's relationship with China's economy, which is already the state's third-largest export market behind Canada and Mexico.

Bousquet told us Monday "a number of UW System schools have relationships in Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and many other places and so what we want to do is capitalize on that name recognition and support Wisconsin’s global growth."

Last year, Bousquet led a UW-Eau Claire delegation to China and Hong Kong to lay the groundwork for additional partnerships between the university and higher education institutions and businesses in China.
