OSHKOSH, Wis. (AP) -- Union workers at Oshkosh Corp. are voting again on whether to reopen contract extension talks with the company to help win a military contract.
Oshkosh has asked for a five-year extension on the present labor contract which expires in 2016. Company executives say the extension is needed to help it compete for a contract to build a military vehicle that will replace the Army and Marine Corps' Humvees.
Tuesday's vote is the second time this summer that members of United Auto Workers Local 578 have been asked about a contract extension. No agreement was reached by the previous July 31st deadline.
Oshkosh Mayor Burke Tower tells WLUK-TV the city has a lot at stake economically. The company says the military contract is valued at roughly $13 billion.
