EAU CLAIRE, Wis. An area university is doing it's part Tuesday in giving the gift of life.
Globe University in Eau Claire hosted an American Red Cross "We Challenge U" blood drive Tuesday.
The program encourages college students to get involved in the community by organizing blood drives and recruiting friends and faculty to give blood during the winter months.
Organizors say its all about the learning experience.
"We do it number one to teach, help the students. We haver a lot of volunteers from our professional communications class helping out today, and we also do it just so they can give back to the communuty a little bit more," says Gretchen Johnson.
Johnson says they have four drives a year, and average about 25 donars per drive.
They say college and high school blood drives account for as much as 20 percent of donations given through the Red Cross
