EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- There's an effort to support beekeeping in the City of Eau Claire as a condition has reduced the bee population across the country.
Orgainzers of Save the Bees say they have more than 500 signatures in support of beekeeping in Eau Claire. There's no ordinance to address beekeeping in the city right now. The group wants Eau Claire to adopt an ordinance like a Madison law that took effect last year. It requires beehives to be at least 25 feet from neighboring homes.
Beekeeping has drawn attention recently because of the colony collapse disorder. Urban beekeeping supporters say it can help combat the problem.
