Victim in November crash near Thorp dies

NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (WEAU) - A man who was hurt in a crash last month has died.

The Clark County Sheriff's Department says David Prokopiak, 49, of Thorp died on December 1. The crash happened on November 18 on State Highway 73, north of Thorp. Investigators say Prokopiak was driving a pickup truck south on highway 73, and hit a truck and animal trailer that had pulled out of a driveway. That driver wasn't hurt. Prokopiak was flown to the hospital, where he later died.

Deputies say neither speed nor alcohol were factors in the crash.
NEILLSVILLE, Wis. (CLARK COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT NEWS RELEASE) --The Clark County Sheriff’s Department responded to a two vehicle crash on Monday, November 18, 2013. The crash occurred at about 10:15 pm on STH 73 about one half mile north of Pine Road, Township of Thorp.

Investigation showed that the deceased, David E. Prokopiak, 49, was driving southbound on STH 73 in a 1996 Ford F350 truck. Prokopiak struck a truck/cattle trailer that had pulled out from a driveway. This vehicle was a 2009 Kenworth and was being operated by Jonathan D. Loomis, 29, Altoona. Prokopiak was flown from the scene and died on Sunday, December 1 from his injuries. Loomis was not injured. Neither speed nor alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.

This is the 9th traffic fatality in Clark County for 2013. The Thorp Fire and Ambulance and Ministry St Joseph’s Hospital air medical transport assisted at the scene.
