Visit Eau Claire & businesses help kids bundle up

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- More than 1,000 winter hats were given to children in need in the area on Friday.

The hats were donated by companies Foamation, Inc. and to the Wisconsin Department of Tourism's statewide collection program, "The Big Bundle Up" campaign.

The Visit Eau Claire fun patrol picked up the hats Friday morning and then gave them to kids at YMCA youth after-school programs and the Boys and Girls Club in the afternoon.

“It's important for everyone to be warm number one, and get something special around the holiday number two,” said Lee Heike with Visit Eau Claire. “And we're hoping that we can provide it here for them today.”

A "Big Bundle Up" donation box will be located in the Menomonie Area Travel Wisconsin Welcome Center for donors to drop off warm clothing items until January 4, 2013.
