EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Visit Eau Claire is touting the popularity of it's website, which was recently redesigned at a cost of nearly $200,000.
The group held an event to announce the launch of the page on Thursday. The website has been online since May. It's aimed at helping people visiting the area and those who live here find hotels, restaurants, shopping, and other community attractions. Visit Eau Claire says the new website has attracted more web traffic, and kept internet users on the page longer in its first month and again in July than at those times last year. Linda John with Visit Eau Claire said the cost to re-design the website will be paid over a three-year period.
"It's a big investment," she said. "We do have a revenue generation program, so part of this is supported by advertising. So, it's not all our Visit Eau Claire dollars. There's private sector dollars that are helping to support that. In fact, about a third of it is coming from the private businesses through their participation."
Visit Eau Claire went through Tuscon, Arizona-based Simple View to redesign the website. It now offers a direct booking link to hotels and resorts. Compared to July 2013 visits to the site have increased by 78% and unique visitors increased 87%. Time spent on www.visiteauclaire.com increased 6% compared to last year and page views continue to increase year after year as demonstrated by a 22% increase.
In addition to a new fun and inviting design the site also boasts innovative features including a direct booking link to area hotels, resorts, and bed and breakfasts. With responsive design features and social media integration, locals and visitors can stay up to date with all the happenings on their many devices.
